Tarogramma Archive | Damien Cifelli @ Edinburgh Art Festival

As part of the 2019 Edinburgh Art Festival, Damien Cifelli presents Tarogramma Archive, a collection of artworks that reveal the history of the hidden land of Tarogramma.

Shrouded from the eyes of the world, the hidden civilisation of Tarogramma has long existed in parallel with our own. A complex society that lies tantalisingly beyond our reach. Through many accidental discoveries, a picture of this uniquely fascinating land has begun to form. All that is known about the place exists in the objects recovered from the wrecks of fateful expeditions or the detailed testimonies of the few who have returned. Portraits of the inhabitants, flags, artefacts, posters and jewellery are displayed alongside architectural models, drawings and records from the many expeditions. Using this information, a vivid picture has been formed of the land of Tarogramma.

Damien Cifelli is a Scottish/Italian multidisciplinary artist creating work in various mediums. So far this has included painting, drawing, printmaking, writing, ceramics, making clothes, jewellery making, weaving and sculpture. All works are distinct but contained within the same narrative of describing a fictional civilisation. He is inspired by the works of many Italian artists including Loris Cecchini, Maurizio Cattelan and Michelangelo Pistoletto.
He has exhibited in the Royal Scottish Academy and Edinburgh College of Art. The jewellery he designs and makes is currently stocked in the Tate Modern, the V&A and many shops across the UK.

Exhibition launch on Thursday 25 July at 12 noon.
