The First Arlecchino, a European Superstar

 

Maggie Rose in conversation with Vanni Carpenedo and Betty Andriolo

 

Playwright and theatre historian Maggie Rose will tell the story of the work and travels of Tristano Martinelli, the first Arlecchino. A contemporary of Shakespeare, this talented actor-author from Mantua gained star status throughout Europe.

Vanni Carpenedo’s Arlecchino is living proof that Arlecchino’s mask is alive and kicking today. Accompany Arlecchino on his adventures and try out his masks!

 

Maggie Rose teaches British Theatre and Performance at Milan State University. A playwright and translator, she is a member of the Scottish Society of Playwrights. In recent years, she has penned the following plays: A Walk in Shakespeare’s Garden, Arlecchino and Shakespeare Srl, Tristano Martinelli. A World of Harlequins.

Vanni Carpenedo is an actor. He trained in Commedia dell’Arte workshops led by the celebrated Arlecchino, Ferruccio Soleri. Vanni has toured internationally as a member of the Avogaria Theatre Company. He lives in Venice, where for the last fifteen years he has worked as a drama teacher and actor.

Betty Andriolo is an actress and teacher. She holds an MA in Foreign Languages and Literatures from Ca Foscari, the University of Venice. She trained in Commedia dell’Arte in Venice and in physical theatre in Bonn and London. She has been performing since 2003.
