Simple Women by Chiara Malta | Glasgow Film Festival

Simple Women by Chiara Malta | Glasgow Film Festival

Ambitious yet graceless film director Federica (Jasmine Trinca) has only ever had one obsession: cinema. One film in particular has always proved a particular inspiration: Hal Hartley’s ‘Simple Men’, where her obsession with Romanian actor Elina Löwensohn began. So when the opportunity to make a film about Elina, with Elina in the title role, she jumped at the chance. However, as she discovers her hero might not be as idyllic as once thought, the line begins to blur between art and reality. Shades of ‘Synecdoche, New York’ with a feminist perspective, ‘Simple Women’ is an innovative and funny debut.
