#SalToEXTRA Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino

For the first time in its long and celebrated history - after thirty-two years - Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino, one of the most important publishing events in the world, cannot take place in May, due to the Covid-19 emergency.

While waiting for the right conditions to hold the regular edition whenever possible, the book fair has decided to react to the crisis. Salone del Libro has conceived a special edition that will take place completely online.

A rich programme of live streaming events will be broadcasted by the website of Salone del Libro and by its main media partner Rai, the national public broadcasting company, offering the chance to interact with national and international guests from Thursday 14 to Sunday 17May.

Salone Extra will be characterised by over 50 conversations with international and Italian authors, actors, philosophers, musicians, scientists to discuss their work and how their views are holding up against this groundbreaking scenario. It will be a unique blend of familiar and emerging voices, with a strong take on sustainable economics, new ecologies, climate change, artificial intelligence, feminism, the resistance of translation and the poetics of space.

As Italy was shockingly hit by Covid-19, the events are dedicated to the ones we lost, to their families, and all the essential workers and medical professionals who kept the country together.

The theme picked by Director Nicola Lagioia and the editorial committee for this year’s regular edition was «Altre forme di vita/ Other forms of life». The theme stays on, now more relevant than ever. Turin, and Italy, will be a reference point for all the people who consider books as a way to imagine together a better future.
