Puccini Festival, the most important opera festival in Italy and the only one in the world devoted exclusively to Giacomo Puccini, takes place every summer, in the months of July and August, in the places which inspired the Maestro and his immortal melodies. His operas are performed in an open air theatre which hosts 3,400 seats, situated by the lake of Massaciuccoli in Tuscany, a green beauty spot where you can visit Puccini’s house.
Established in 1930, it has become a prestigious festival, an opportunity to hear the greatest opera singers directed by important orchestra conductors and to admire the most extraordinary staging by famous directors for Madame Butterfly, Turandot, La Bohème, Tosca and Manon Lescaut.
Tosca tells the tragic story of the protagonist and her lover Cavaradossi. It is from this opera that we have one of the most beautiful arias “"E lucevan le stelle" ("And the stars shone") which has been sung on several occasions by Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti.
