Fenoglio, Meneghello and Great Britain

Fenoglio Meneghello

Beppe Fenoglio and Luigi Meneghello are rightly considered two of Italy’s greatest writers. They both participated in the Resistance movement in the Second World War and wrote of their experiences in works such as Il partigiano Johnny and I piccoli maestri. To mark the centenary of their birth the Italian Cultural Institute in Edinburgh will host a lively workshop chaired by Philip Cooke (University of Strathclyde), which seeks to explore and understand the nature of the writers’ engagement with the language and culture of Great Britain, and beyond. The workshop, in hybrid format, will be followed by a screening of the Taviani brothers film adaptation of Una questione privata (2017) and a round-table conversation.

Please note that, in keeping with the tradition of Fenoglio and Meneghello’s writing, the afternoon talks will be in English or Italian, and potentially in a combination of both.
