The Italian Institute of Culture in Edinburgh, Shuzoku Wado-Kai Association with Dalry Karate Group are delighted to invite you to a karate workshop with Italian karateka Luigi Busà, first-ever gold medal in the men's kumite 75 kg event at Tokyo 2020 Olympics, on Sunday, 14th May 2023 at the “Engage Sports Centre” campus of Edinburgh Napier University (9 Sighthill Court, Edinburgh EH11 4BN).
The event coordinated by Instructor Andy Elliott 6th Dan will start from 10:30 am and will be divided in different sessions:
10:45 am – 11:45 am: children under 12
11:45 am – 12:15 pm: over 12 years old and adults
Interval
12:45 pm – 1:15 pm: over 12 years old and adults
1:15 pm – 2:15 pm: session for students with disabilities; this session is open to the wider Karate community. Children and adults with disabilities will be helped in the course of the workshop.
Luigi Busà (born 9 October 1987) is an Italian karateka. He is a two-time gold medallist at the World Karate Championships and a five-time gold medallist at the European Karate Championships. He represented Italy at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, winning the first-ever gold medal in the men's kumite 75 kg event.
In 2015, he won the silver medal in the men's kumite 75 kg event at the 2015 European Games held in Baku, Azerbaijan. In 2019, he won the gold medal in the men's kumite 75 kg event at the 2019 European Karate Championships held in Guadalajara, Spain. He won one of the bronze medals in the men's 75 kg event at the 2022 Mediterranean Games held in Oran, Algeria.
Luigi Busà is the author of the book ‘La forza e il controllo. Lezioni di vita sul tatami’ (Longanesi, 2022). The book is the story of his making as one of the greatest karate athletes, rising from his childhood in a Southern Italian province to winning not only medals but also his fears, acquiring self confidence and realising his dreams.
Instructor Andy Elliott 6th Dan is Vice-chairman of Shuzoku Wado-Kai Association. Shuzoku Wado-Kai Association has many clubs in Edinburgh & West Lothian and Dumfries and Galloway. Dalry Karate Group have specialised Disability classes in association with Active Schools. The group is assisted by Louise Elliott 2nd Dan.
