The Art of Migration

The event will include the presentation of documentary 'The Art of Migration' by Matteo Fiorucci and Bernardo Angeletti, 2017 (28 minutes), followed by a panel discussion. 


The short film 'The Art of Migration' follows refugee image-makers from autumn 2016 until Spring 2017 in a workshop founded by artist and art therapist Virginia Ryan in Trevi, in Umbria - Italy's 'Green Heart' . Filmed by two young film-makers from Perugia, Matteo Fiorucci and Bernardo Angeletti, it explores the creative act as one of the paths to orient oneself in the new, Italian reality.

The documentary will be followed by a panel discussion with:

Margaret Hills de Zarate' -Senior Lecturer in Art Psychotherapy at Queen Margaret University

George Kerevan - Former member of Parliament and Journalist

Virginia Ryan - visual artist and art therapist, founder of 'MakeArtNotWalls/Italia'

Matteo Fiorucci and Bernardo Angeletti, film-makers, Perugia,italy.


On the occasion two exhibitions will run concurrently:

'Phantome' Photographic Essay from the migrant centre in Trevi, Umbria by Matteo Fiorucci 2016/2017

'Reciprocus' Mixed media works on paper by Virginia Ryan and participant image-makers from 'Make Art Not Walls/Italia'.


Bernardo Angeletti was born in Assisi in 1991. A graduate from Perugia University and the European Film College, he is a film-maker,producer,scenographer and photographer.

Matteo Fiorucci Writer, photographer and Videomaker, Matteo was born in Perugia and is a graduate from Perugia University and the University of Siena ( Cultural Anthropology and Languages of the Image)

Australian-born Virginia Ryan is an artist and art therapist (trained in Edinburgh) who has exhibited widely since 1979, including previous shows at the Italian Cultural centre and Dovecote gallery in Edinburgh.She is an Italian citizen and has lived and worked in West Africa from 2000 until recently. She now works and lives in Umbria.
