For #StayTunedOnIt, we start today a series of videos of artists, musicians, theatre practitioners, academics, writers (and many more) who have collaborated with the Institute in the past or who were collaborating with us while things came to a halt.

100 years after his birth and on the day that marks 40 years from the death of Italy’s greatest children’s literature writer, Gianni Rodari, we remember him through the words of Beniamino Sidoti.

Gianni Rodari was born in Omegna in 1920. After achieving his teaching diploma, he worked as a teacher for a few years. At the end of the Second World War he began his career as a journalist, which led him to collaborate with numerous magazines, including “L’Unità”, “Pioniere”, “Paese Sera”. During the Fifties he began to publish his works for children, which immediately achieved a huge success among public and critics. His books were translated into several languages have earned many awards, including, in 1970, the prestigious “Hans Christian Andersen” award, considered the “Nobel Prize” of children’s literature. In the Sixties and Seventies he took part in conferences and meetings in schools with teachers, librarians, parents and students. The notes collected in a series of these meetings were collected in The Grammar of Phantasy (1973). Gianni Rodari died in Rome the 1980. Among his most significant works: Adventures of Cipollino, Jelsomino in the Land of Liars, Nursery Rhymes in Heaven and on Earth, Telephone Tales, The Book of Errors, Lamberto, Lamberto, Lamberto and many more!

Beniamino Sidoti is a writer and creator of games. He has been working on creativity for the past 25 years. His books have been translated in several languages and he has published with the most important Italian publishers. He is co-founder of LuccaGames, and he is a collaborator of the Italian Ministry of Education for playful teaching (didattica ludica).
