#StayTunedOnIt #9

While we are closed to public, we would like to take you on a journey aimed to discover the best classics of Italian literature chosen from the audiobooks collection "Ad alta voce" broadcasted in Italian by Rai Radio 3.

Our ninth choice is "I piccoli maestri" by Luigi Meneghello read by Michele Di Mauro.

Luigi Meneghello (1922–2007) was a distinguished writer, scholar and, in 1961, the founder of the Department of Italian Studies at the University of Reading.

In 1967 he wrote “I piccoli maestri” (Little Teachers) a poetic novel about a group of idealistic young college students drawn into the Resistance struggle. The novel was considered "one of the few non-rhetorical, and therefore all the more effective, memoirs of the Italian resistance, which is true in every detail" (L. and G. Lepschy, in the "Guardian obituary").

In 1998 it was made into a film by Daniele Luchetti and screened in the main completion at the 59th Venice International Film Festival.

Che cos’è una patria se non è un ambiente culturale? cioè conoscere e capire le cose.“

Buon ascolto!
