Sciascia in the Anglophone World

Thursday 9 December, 4pm

Sciascia in the Anglophone World

Part of International Lecture Series on Leonardo Sciascia,

an homage to Leonardo Sciascia on the centenary of his birth.

Introduced by Katia Pizzi (Director, ICI London) and Joseph Farrell (University of Strathclyde).

Liz Wren-Owens (Cardiff University) will analyse the way the English translation of La zia d’America enables us to think through the relationship between translation and the transnational perspective, and Daniela La Penna (University of Reading) will examine Sciascia’s place in the Anglophone literary market.

To follow, Katia Pizzi, Marco Gioacchini (Director, ICI Dublin), Chiara Avanzato (Director, ICI Edinburgh), Joseph Farrell, and translator Ann Goldstein will present the new English translation of the Favole della dittatura, a collaborative project by the three Institutes.

Followed by Q&A with the audience.

The International Lecture Series on Leonardo Sciascia is an initiative promoted by the Sciascia Centenary National Committee, led by Senator Emma Bonino and by the Amici di Leonardo Sciascia Association, in collaboration with the Università per Stranieri di Perugia and the Istituto per l’Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani, and supported by Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation.

The event will be streamed via the Facebook pages of the Treccani Italian Encyclopaedia Institute, the Amici di Leonardo Sciascia Association, the Todomodo journal, and the Olschki publishing house.
