Since 2015, the international conference Il Corpo nel Suono, dedicated to the synergy between music and dance, promoted by Accademia nazionale di Danza (National Dance Academy, AND) of Rome, has encouraged the culture of dance and the application of good practices to increase cooperation and exchange at an international level and create a platform for the future of dance at an institutional and European level.
After two years' pause Il Corpo nel Suono has returned: with the aim of expanding its international reach, the VI Conference will be staged in Glasgow, Scotland on 7-9 April, 2023. It deals with the themes of mutual interaction between music and dance in the different contexts where it occurs, such as the training, the choreographic or the performative context. Its vision is to explore reflections on music and movement notation, the choreo musicological. historical and anthropological perspectives of this relationship, and finally provide insight on the function and role of the dance musician as well as objectives and strategies of training. The conference constitutes a major opportunity towards growth and enhancement of the standing of the musician in dance, which is essential in any choreo musical context both educational and professional.
The programme showcases Italian musicians and dancers Vinicio Colella in Piano Circus, Ballet; Valentina Squarzoni and Francesco de Rubeis in the lecture/performance Rhythmind body - A study for a Rhythmic Body.
Vinicio Colella graduated with a degree in piano, organ and composition for organ; for over thirty years he has dedicated his work as musician to dance and theatre.
Valentina Squarzoni graduated with honor at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza di Roma in 2019; she has a background of musical studies, that inform her practice of dance, both as performer and choreographer.
Francesco De Rubeis is Faculty member at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza di Roma; he graduated in Jazz Drumming at The Royal Conservatory of Holland.
Cristiano Grifone is programme director of Il Corpo nel Suono for the 2023 edition in collaboration with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
The National Dance Academy of Rome (AND) is the only state institute in Italy that issues first and second level academic qualifications equivalent to university degrees for teaching dance.
