The Consulate General of Italy and the Italian Institute of Culture are delighted to be joining the Edinburgh Science Festival 2026 as part of this exciting celebration of science and innovation. Join us to explore how robotics and AI are transforming space science, seek out new ideas and new approaches, and to boldly challenge everyday assumptions about technology and our understanding of the universe.
Through interactive discussion we will investigate the role AI plays in interpreting the cosmos and uncover how it can act as the ‘brain’ supporting complex space missions. We will examine the importance of robots in going where no one has gone before, and highlight some of the Italian scientists in Scotland working on topics such as human–robot interaction, autonomous vehicles, AI chatbots, and more.
Please find below the names and profiles of the speakers:
- Prof. Massimiliano Vasile, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (University of Strathclyde);
- Dr. Marta Romeo, Mathematics and Computer Sciences (Heriot-Watt University);
- Dr. Emanuele De Pellegrin (Centre for AI in Assistive Autonomy).
