An event dedicated to writing and to the stories that, through literature, give voice to what so often remains in the shadows.

Writer Antonella Lattanzi will meet readers in the Belfast Room at the Ulster Museum on Sunday 27 September 2026 at 1.30 pm. In conversation with Federica Ferrieri, she will discuss her work and explore with the audience the themes and characters that shape her writing.

Born in Bari in 1979 and now based in Rome, Antonella Lattanzi is the author of novels including Devozione, Prima che tu mi tradisca, Una storia nera, Questo giorno che incombe, Cose che non si raccontano and Chiara. She has also written several screenplays, including Fiore, Il campione and Una storia nera, adapted from her novel of the same name. She contributes to Corriere della Sera, and her books have been translated into several languages.

At the heart of the conversation will be Cose che non si raccontano (Things That Go Unspoken, akoya 2026, translation by Jamie Richard), an intimate and powerful novel in which Antonella Lattanzi explores the desire for motherhood and everything that so often remains unspoken around the experience of trying to have a child. With direct, clear and deeply personal writing, the book explores the body, waiting, fear, hope, pain and the contradictions surrounding motherhood, while also confronting the silence that still surrounds experiences that are deeply lived yet rarely spoken about.

The event will be held in English.

The event is free but ticketed. Places are limited and advance registration is required. You can reserve your place HERE.

The event will take place in the presence of the Honorary Consul of Italy in Belfast, Giorgio Zarrelli, and is supported by the Italian Institute of Culture in Edinburgh, in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture in Dublin and FIILI – Festival of Italian and Irish Literature in Ireland.
