St Magnus International Festival
St Magnus International Festival is Orkney’s annual celebration of the arts. Musical events are at the heart of the artistic programme, the Festival also encompasses drama, dance, literature and visual arts.
The Italian Institute is very proud to be associated with the St Magnus International Festival 2014.
A number of events have been programmed to commemorate the creation of the Italian Chapel and the release of the Italian Prisoners of War in 1944.
The Festival makes use of various venues around Orkney, from the Romanesque grandeur of St Magnus Cathedral to the poignant intimacy of the Italian Chapel.
This exhibition commemorates the Italian Chapel and the Italian Prisoners of War with whom Orkney is strongly associated. Numerous photographs show the construction of the chapel, the painting of the frescos and the men who worked whilst held prisoner in Camp 60 in Orkney.
The Exhibition has been supported by: Associazione Lucchesi nel Mondo (Scottish Branch); Italian Scotland (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation) and Club C.U.O.R.I. Cardosini.
