Written by Dario Fo and Franca Rame
Marina De Juli of The Fo Rame Theatre Company
The show consists of a programme of comic-grotesque monologues on the condition of women.
“A woman alone”: a woman who has everything in her house, who lives according to standards set by television, but who lacks the most important things – the respect of her husband and her self esteem. She finds she has a neighbour whom she had never noticed, and in a tragicomic narration she confides to this woman the story of her entire life.
“Waking up”: a piece which provokes laughter and reflection on the range of emotions so long repressed by today’s women, overwhelmed by the stresses and rhythms of everyday life, divided between household and work, they are forced to endure.
The second part of the show is dedicated to the subject of “sex”, treated vriously in a hilarious “Orgasm Lesson”, and an ancient jester-like story, full of humour, entitled “La parpaja topola”, (The Butterfly Mouse). This show mixes comedy and grotesque and ranges from intelligent irony to reflection, all seen through the eyes of women who have not lost their ability to laugh while looking at themselves in the mirror.
The performance will be preceded by a round table with Prof. Joseph Farrell, Dr Donatella Fischer and Marina De Juli. Two books by Prof. Farrell will be presented: “Non è tempo di nostalgia Franca Rame con Joseph Farrell” Della Porta editori (Pisa), 2013 which contains the last interview Franca Rame was able to give before her death and “Dario e Franca: la biografia della coppia Fo/Rame attraverso la storia italiana”, edizioni Ledipublishing, 2014. The only up to date biography of Fo-Rame available in Italian.
