Opening for Applications
The Italian Embassy in London invites young Italian researchers across the United Kingdom to submit applications for its annual research award programme “Italy Made Me.”
The awards will be presented to Italian researchers operating in the United Kingdom who received part of their education in Italy, in recognition of innovative research conducted in each of the three ERC domains:
• Life Sciences (LS)
•Physical and Engineering Sciences (PE)
• Social Sciences and Humanities (SH)
This initiative is coordinated by the Italian Embassy in London, and in collaboration with il Circolo, the Association of Italian Scientists in the United Kingdom (AISUK), the Italian Consulate General in Edinburgh, and many other academic associations and Italian researchers across the UK.
Admission Criteria
Candidates must:
· Possess a valid Italian passport or identity card.
· Have finished either/both their “maturità” or “laurea” in Italy.
· Have discussed their PhD no more than 3 years, or for their laurea five years, prior to the 31/12/15.
· Be a registered member of an academic association of Italians in the UK. However, it is possible to apply even if the subscription is still on going. It is enough to mention the name of the association.
Submission Procedure
Candidates must send a description of the research they have conducted within an academic institution in the United Kingdom, along with a signed copy of the attached declaration from both the candidate and their supervisor (PI) that attests that the results presented for the award were obtained by work conducted mainly by the candidate.
All applications must be submitted in PDF format to the following email address: Italymademe@ambitaliascienza.london
The deadline for applications is the 15/5/16
Award Process
The evaluation process for applications will be coordinated chiefly by the Office of the Scientific Attache of the Italian Embassy in London, and will be conducted with the help of the Embassy’s Scientific Council and AISUK.
Recipients of the awards will be selected chiefly on the basis of the quality and significance of the research presented. Other factors, such as publications or other awards that candidates may have received will only be considered in instances where candidates have received a similar evaluation, and a tie break is needed.
Applications will be assessed within the context of their own ERC domain, and will be viewed independently by at least three judges. These judges will be asked to rank applications in order of merit from first to last, with each position corresponding to a point value. The two candidates who received the highest average score in each ERC domain will be named the winners, and will receive a certificate at a formal ceremony held at the Italian Embassy in London, as well as have their name published on the Embassy’s website.
The awards ceremony will be held on the 7/7/2016 at the Embassy in London between 17,30 and 19,30.
