Lyric Opera returns to the Grand Opera House in Belfast with The Barber of Seville from Tue 17 Feb – Sat 21 Feb 2026: an iconic masterpiece in a production bright with colour, high in humour and full of action.
Enter into 18th century Seville with all the ingredients for comic chaos, a love match made in heaven and the wily and inventive Figaro juggling everything to make it happen. All wrapped up in Gioachino Rossini’s irresistible and masterful score, full of virtuoso brilliance.
Making his debut with Lyric Opera is the versatile young Italian Bass-Baritone Matteo Torcaso. The creative team brings together for the first time the highly sought after genius of the Bel Canto opera, the world renowned Carmen Santoro who criss crosses the planet from The Met in New York, to Pesaro, Milan, Rome, Dresden, Wexford to Tokyo and in between. She is joined by the Artistic Director of Lyric Opera, Vivian Coates who will direct and design a colourful, fast paced and witty production, bringing to life, a chaotic day in Seville of intrigue and love.
This has long been a Bel Canto classic, strewn with arias, duets and ensembles that everyone knows and loves. This is a perfect way to indulge in a familiar favourite – or discover how exciting opera can be for the first time.
