On the occasion of the relocation of its premises to Italy House, the Italian Institute of Culture in Edinburgh presents the project Italia Danza, which will be performed in the new spaces of the Institute on Thursday, 12 June at 18:00 and at 19:00.
Italia Danza is a project of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and of the CCN/Aterballetto, made possible by the Directorate General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry, in collaboration with the Italian Institutes of Culture and with the support of the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Municipality of Reggio Emilia.
The dancers of Centro Coreografico Nazionale/Aterballetto will stage MicroDanze, short performances of a few minutes each that are specifically designed for the different spaces of the Institute. By offering the public a close-up experience, they bring the spectator into direct contact with the artists, amplifying the aesthetic vision and emotion generated by the performance.
Free entry, but limited spaces available. Please reserve your space by email at eventi.iicedimburgo@esteri.it (please include full names of everyone in your party and your preferred time slot).
Italia Danza in Edinburgh will include 4 MicroDanze (micro-dances):
Choreography Francesca Lattuada
Music Ludwig Van Beethoven (Sinfonia N. 7 Secondo Movimento – Allegretto)
Costumes Bruno Fatalot
Dancer Clément Haenen
First performed9-10/10/2021, Athens, Acropolis Museum
Wrapped in the elegant and impalpable costume of Bruno Fatalot, a dancer moves solemnly on a barrel-pedestal, pulled by the painful and mysterious note of Beethoven’s Allegretto. His dance fascinates and seduces, as impressive as a prayer song.

Near life experience is a quest into different states of the body, states which relate to intermediary sensations. It is an attempt to withdraw oneself from space and time. A kind of eclipse of the self, a search through this imaginary amnios – a new writing in the space left empty by the body (Angelin Preljocaj).

Choreography, set and costumes Roberto Tedesco
Music Bowland
Dancers Arianna Kob, Matteo Fiorani
First performed 9-10/10/2021, Athens, Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre
Turn the Tide on Plastic. This is the name of the racing boat that during the Volvo Ocean Race collected important data on the pollution of the ocean by microplastics, discovering that they are much more widespread than people think. A recent study by the University of Newcastle has calculated for the first time that the amount of plastic we ingest is equal to one credit card per week. There are seven plastic islands discovered so far in the world.

Choreography and costumes Diego Tortelli
Music Atom TM, Son Lux
Costume design Nuvia Valestri
Dancers Estelle Bovay, Leonardo Farina
Prime Rappresentazioni 4/11/2023, Reggio Emilia, Teatro Municipale Romolo Valli
A ‘gig’ is an opening or closing number. Something short that serves to warm up the audience or to say ‘good night’ to those who have come to see us. In this MicroDance I want to use the two dancers to touch the audience’s eyes, as if it were a small surprise in a context where a performance was unexpected, a small ‘gig’. (Diego TOrtelli)
