As part of ConTeSti, on Thursday, 17 September 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at the Italian Institute of Culture in Edinburgh, psychologists Gaia Figini and Emanuela Frigerio of Transiti – Psicologia d’Espatrio will present the book Traiettorie. Guida psicologica all’espatrio, offering a reflection on the psychological dimensions of living abroad and the different experiences that shape life in another country.

Drawing on the themes explored in Traiettorie, Gaia Figini and Emanuela Frigerio will examine the questions, challenges and resources of those living away from their home country, with particular attention to the changes that accompany the different stages of the migration experience.

Leaving, relocating, building a new life away from one’s home country: moving abroad is a complex experience, involving change, separation, new relationships and the ongoing redefinition of one’s identity. It is not limited to the moment of departure, but encompasses all stages of the migration journey: the idea of leaving, arrival and adjustment, building new connections, maintaining a relationship with one’s origins and, for some people, the experience of returning home.

The event is part of the programme of activities that Transiti dedicates to Italian communities abroad and will provide an opportunity to reflect on the different trajectories that can make up an experience of living abroad.

ConTeSti is a project created through a collaboration between Transiti.net – Psicologia d’Espatrio and Comites Scotland and Northern Ireland, funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture in Edinburgh and the Consulate General of Italy in Edinburgh.

The event will be held in Italian. Admission is free, but advance registration is required: please email rsvp.iicedimburgo@esteri.it or call 0131 668 2232, providing the first and last names of all participants.
