Moderata Fonte’s ‘The Worth of Women’ in Dundee and St Andrews

The Worth of Women

Kairos Italy Theater (KIT), New York’s distinguished Italian Theatre Company, brings The Worth of Women to Dundee and St Andrews this September. This is a wonderfully theatrical adaptation of Moderata Fonte’s remarkable book, written and published in 1600 and translated by Virginia Cox. Directed by Laura Caparrotti and Jay Stern.

Dive into a powerful, 500-year-old narrative that feels strikingly relevant as a group of women candidly share their lives, shedding light on their struggles and triumphs. Their conversations reveal a perplexing hostility from some men and spark thoughtful discussions on overcoming it.

Fonte’s witty and ambitious work champions the notion that women possess the same innate talents as men. With sharp and engaging dialogue, she paints a vivid picture of Renaissance women navigating their roles in the home, society, and the arts. This production invites us to reflect on how far we’ve come and how some challenges remain unchanged.
