Motta at the Open Day 2025

Motta open day 1

On the occasion of the Italian Institute of Culture’s Open Day on Thursday, 20th March 2025, we are delighted to welcome singer-songwriter Motta for an exclusive stripped back music performance.

Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and soundtrack composer, Motta (Francesco Motta) approached music from an early age.

In 2013, he decided to combine his passions, cinema and music, by attending the Film Composition course at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and began composing soundtracks (‘Pororoca’ by Martina Di Tommaso, ‘Dollhouse’ by Edward Balli, ‘The Tell Tale Heart’ by Andy Kelleher, ‘Good Bye Darling I’m Off To Fight’ by Simone Manetti).

He made his debut as a solo artist in 2016 with ‘La Fine dei Vent’Anni’ (PIMI Special Prize for the best debut album, Targa Tenco as best first work), for which he wrote the lyrics, composed the music and curated the arrangements. In 2019, he took part in the Sanremo Music Festival with the song ‘Dov’è l’Italia‘, winning the prize for Best Duet with Nada.

In 2024, Motta has curated the soundtrack for Massimiliano Zanin’s debut feature ‘THE CAGE – NELLA GABBIA’, in which the sound atmosphere accompanies the protagonist’s search for self-awareness and a much-desired and hard-fought freedom.

Motta has released five studio albums, ‘La Fine dei Vent’Anni’ (2016), ‘Vivere o morire’ (2018, Targa Tenco for best album), ‘Semplice’ (2021), ‘La musica è finita‘ (2023), ‘SUONA! VOL. 1’ (2024) and one live album ‘Motta dal vivo‘ (2019). He has also released a book, ‘Vivere la musica’ (Il Saggiatore, 2020) and extensively toured in Italy. He has previously collaborated with the likes of Riccardo Sinigallia, Willie Peyote, Giovanni Truppi, Jeremiah Fraites, Ginevra, Danno, Roberta Sammarelli, Cesare Petulicchio, Giorgio Maria Condemi, Kazu Makino, Teho Teardo and Maria Chiara Argirò, among others.
