On the occasion of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2022, the Italian Institute of Culture is proud to present the Italian artists performing at the Fringe.

From Stand Up Comedy, to Musical Performaces, from Drama to Dance, there's plenty for everyone!

After a two-year break, Luca Villani returns to play for local and international guitar enthusiasts new pieces and beloved works, like the Albèniz Asturias and the Aguado Rondò. Luca will play different Valses such as Tàrrega Grand Vals, Tchaikovsky Sentimental Valse, Miguel Llobet's dreamlike Scherzo-Vals, the popular Vals op.8 n.4 by Barrios, with its Latin-American feeling, the joyful Ponce Mexican Vals and the Villa-Lobos Valsa-Choro, rich in Brazilian-saudade. Presented by the Barsanti Ensemble and the University of Edinburgh Musical Instrument Collection, this concert highlights a manuscript collection of music in Edinburgh University Library that was collected by Charles Hope-Weir during his grand tour of Europe in the 1750s. The music, by lesser-known Italian composers, features baroque stringed instruments and natural horns. Performed on period instruments in St Cecilia’s Georgian Concert Room, this concert will transport you back to the 18th century with music and instruments of the time.

Despite efforts to deter athletes from taking illegal substances, doping in sport remains. Are recent attempts to justify a 15-year-old athlete’s positive test a new low?
