Genoa – Mediterranean and back, a journey through Crêuza de mä | Exhibition on Fabrizio De André

The exhibition Genoa-Mediterranean and back: a journey through Crêuza de mä, is the outcome of an educational project, promoted in 2014 by Coop Liguria and designed by film-maker Matteo Valenti, on Fabrizio De André’s 1984 album – all sang in Genoan dialect .

Together with students from six art institutes and one artist, Matteo Valenti has turned the album’s songs into animated illustrations. Among panels and silhouettes depicting De André, animated short videos will be screened, as well as the documentary Quando la luna si mostra nuda.

The launch of the exhibition will be followed by live performances by Simone Caffari, Tim Du Feu and Carla Sayer of songs by Fabrizio De André.

The exhibition will be open to the public until Monday 22nd of July.

The exhibition and presentation of the project in Edinburgh has received official support by the Fondazione Fabrizio De André Onlus and by Regione Liguria.

Please note that the exhibition opening hours after the launch will be as follows:

Monday to Thursday from 10am to 12pm and from  2pm to 4pm

Matteo Valenti. Film-maker and screenwriter, was born in Genoa. His works include institutional videos, documentaries and music videoclips. As a screenwriter he has worked at several TV series and cartoons. He has taught creative writing a the IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) in Milan. During his collaboration with Coop Liguria, he released the docufilm “Draw not war” (that has received recognition by the President of Italy Sergio Mattarella) with musics by U2 and Pearl Jam, and the DVD “Genova-Mediterraneo e ritorno”.

Simone Caffari (voice, guitar) and Tim Du Feu (violin, guitar, mandolin) have been performing folk and traditional repertoire together for almost ten years, both as a duo and as part of The Badwills, Edinburgh’s own Southern-Italian music band. Their interest in connecting Mediterranean and Northern musical traditions has naturally drawn them towards the music of Fabrizio De André.

Carla Sayer is a Scottish improviser, composer and multi-instrumentalist performer of different styles and genres, with a particular interest in exploring folk traditions across the world.
