XIV Settimana Della Lingua Italiana Nel Mondo

This year the World Italian Language Week (Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo), has been chosen by the Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale to promote the Italian Language throughout the world focusing on the theme: Scrivere la nuova Europa: editoria italiana, autori e lettori nell’era digitale.

Two soldiers, two men, the twin souls of the Italy of their time, are protagonists in an extraordinary novel, a fusion of historical reconstruction and narrative. Spring 1915: Antonio, a religious peasant from Friuli, and Carlo, an electrician from Rome, are called to the front. After the war, their paths diverge: Carlo joins the Fascist Party; Antonio contacts the trade unions and becomes first a socialist, and later a partisan. Both are caught up in the dramatic history of Italy and Europe, in the interwar years until, many years later, history brings them back together, adversaries but with their friendship intact.

Prof. Pietro Neglie, University of Trieste will be in conversation with Prof. Philip Cooke, University of Strathclyde, and the event will be chaired by Dr. Davide Messina, University of Edinburgh. This event will be in English and Italian with simultaneous translation provided.
