These imaginative recitals from Scottish Opera celebrate the 200th anniversary of the publication of The Waverley Novels. Rich with romanticism and full of the supernatural, Scott’s novels and poems have been a well-mined source for generations of composers, and have inspired over 80 operas. These intimate recitals features work by Donizetti, Rossini and Bizet as well as Arthur Sullivan, of Gilbert and Sullivan fame, and Scottish composer Hamish MacCunn.

Visiting four of Scotland’s most singular and beautiful venues, including The Hub in Edinburgh, St Machar’s Cathedral in Aberdeen & Òran Mór in Glasgow, a stellar line-up brings the programme to life. The tour also includes a recital at Scott’s own home, Abbotsford House, on Monday 7 July – the anniversary of the publication of Waverley , the first of the author’s world-famous series.
