The term collocazione (collocation) refers to a familiar grouping of words, especially words that habitually appear together and thereby convey meaning by association. Some examples are ‘caffe forte’, (strong coffee) lanciare un appello (to launch an appeal),prestare attenzione (to pay attention),delusione amara (a bitter disappointment),vittoria netta(a clear victory), etc. The Dictionary is an extremely useful tool for non-native Italian speakers for increasing vocabulary and identifying the correct usage of collocations which are always difficult to master without such a specific resource.
