Concerto No. 3 in D minor for piano and orchestra op. 37
Symphony No. 6 in F major Pastorale op. 68
In the manuscript of his Concerto No. 3 for piano and orchestra, Ludwig Van Beethoven writes “Concert 1800”, at the turn of the century when he reached thirty years. He was already affected by poor hearing, with a personality larger than life, able to influence music and artists. And so this concert, which had its debut only in 1803 in Vienna, indeed opened the way to the nineteenth century. It begins with the powerful and solemn voice of the soloist performing in double octaves. The muscular effort required is not intended merely for theatrical effect but to enhance the sound and to introduce the Largo in M major in what is one of the most admired passages of his music.
