Nicolò Maldina discusses his latest book ‘In pro del mondo’ with Dante scholar Paola Nasti.
In pro del mondo. Dante, la predicazione e i generi della letteratura religiosa medievale (Salerno Editrice, 2017) is the first book-length investigation of the relationship between the Comedy and late-medieval religious culture, with a specific focus on preaching. As such the book addresses some of the key features of Dante’s Comedy by considering the poem’s broader cultural and historical context and the impact that the most important works of religious and didactic literature had on Dante’s work, aiming to provide a new interpretation of the Comedy on the basis of the examination of its relationships with religious and literary culture of thirteenth-century Italy.
Paola Nasti is Associate Professor of Italian Studies at the University of Reading. She has written extensively on Dante, paying specific attention to his philosophical, biblical, theological and religious culture.
Nicolò Maldina is Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. As a Dantist, he has focused mainly on the multiple ways in which the Comedy adapts adopts and responds to different textual forms produced within the Mendicant Orders, with a specific focus on preaching.
