Book presentation | Mi chiamo Cristiano Ferrarese, ho 44 anni e mi sento una persona fortunata.

Cristiano Ferrarese in conversation with Isabella Lazzarini, will present his book Mi chiamo Cristiano Ferrarese, ho 44 anni e mi sento una persona fortunata.

It is the evening of 19 August 2015; Ferrarese is cycling to his new work: night porter in a big, luxury Hotel in Bristol. He cycles and starts narrating… His departure from Italy a few months earlier; his arrival in Bristol, seventeen years after his first experience in London; his new life all work and new peculiar people. His old life in Italy. Ferrarese keeps cycling through Bristol and through its  continuous and sometimes tortuous ups and downs.

In this book the author writes first hand of life and death, happiness and sorrow, love and rejection, and of a lot more, with a text that has no room for complacency or self-fulfilment. Ferrarese, paraphrasing Beckett, quoted in various parts on his book, has always tried, has always failed. Not satisfied, he tries again, and he probably fails again just to fail a bit better every time. This book, at times lyrical and at times scathing is a sort of memoir of his disenchanted experience.

An anarchic soul, a man of many talents, Cristiano Ferrarese has done many different things in his life, from trade unionist to book seller. After writing some surreal detective stories, he moved to Bristol a few years ago, fed up with Italy!

Isabella Lazzarini qualified as Professor of Medieval History in 2013; she teaches at the University of Molise. Her research interests focus on the political, social, and cultural history of late medieval Italy, with an emphasis on Renaissance diplomacy and the growth of different political languages in documentary sources.

So come and enjoy this presentation where the conversation and the narration will be accompanied by some music chosen by the writer to go along with some passages of his book.
