They have shone brilliant new light on baroque classics to worldwide acclaim. For this special recital, Biondi slims his ensemble down to an intimate gathering of just four players, to explore some of the earliest and freshest string quartets.
Mozart began writing quartets in his teens, and Biondi and his group journey through four of these youthful, ebullient gems, which brim over with opera-influenced melody. They contrast them with quartets by Italian composer Carlo Monza – almost unknown to us now, but a major figure in the 18th century, and creator of music of rare invention and drama.
