Maurizio Lombardi
Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2013 at the Italian Cultural Institute
A one-man show, Fists of Sulphur, written, directed and performed by Maurizio Lombardi, winner of the second Florence for Fringe Award. The competition – awarded in Florence, Tuscany – brings an Italian theatre company to the most important festival of performing arts in the world. Lombardi’s winning work was one of more than 20 projects presented from all over in Italy and selected by a jury of experts in the field.
A monologue based on the harsh reality of work in the Sicilian sulphur mines at the beginning of the twentieth century, it focuses on the story of the childhood of a boxer, with his dreams, fears and games to escape death and the hell of the sulphur mines.
Exclusively at the Italian Cultural Institute, the performance will be in Italian.
The competition Florence for Fringe is a project devised by the association Cultcube under the aegis of the Comune di Firenze and the Italian Cultural Institute in Edinburgh, in collaboration with Fondazione Teatro della Pergola.
