Edinburgh College of Art and Filmhouse are proud to present Luchino Visconti: The Art of Decadence, a collection of original poster designs to accompany the 2016 edition of Italian Film Festival Scotland.
Luchino Visconti (1906 – 1976) was one of the most important cultural figures of 20th century Italian culture. Not only was he a noted filmmaker, he was also an opera and theatre director of great reknown. His film work ranges from earthy realism to baroque melodrama and he worked with some of the world’s most famous actors, including Anna Magnani, Burt Lancaster, Alain Delon and Claudia Cardinale.
To mark the 40th anniversary of Visconti’s death, students from the ECA’s Illustration department have brought their own unique spin on his extraordinary body of work. Brand new posters have been created for all fourteen of his feature films, together with a distinctive new portrait of the director himself.
