Le Notti Bianche regia di Luchino Visconti

Oscar-winning Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni is one of the enduring icons of the big screen. We are delighted to present four classic films in collaboration with the Glasgow Film Theatre and Cinecittà to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the great Italian actor’s birth. The season runs from 7 July to 28 July 2024, on the occasion of Fare Cinema 2024, and with thanks to Cristaldifilm, Compass Film and Janus Films.

Le Notti Bianche

Marcello Mastroianni, as a lonely city transplant, and Maria Schell, as a sheltered girl haunted by a lover’s promise, meet by chance on a canal bridge and begin a tentative romance that quickly entangles them in a web of longing and self-delusion. Luchino Visconti’s Le Notti Bianche, an exquisite adaptation of Dostoyevsky’s White Nights, translates this romantic, shattering tale of two restless souls into a ravishing black-and-white dream, screening in glorious 35mm.

Director: Luchino Visconti; Producer: Franco Cristaldi, Giuseppe Maggi, Mario Maggi, Jean-Paul Guibert; Cast: Maria Schell, Marcello Mastroianni, Jean Marais.

Italian with English subtitles.
