Leonardo Sciascia (1921-89) was one of Italy’s greatest 20th century writers. A native of Sicily, he was novelist, playwright, essayist and deviser of a quasi-historical genre which allowed him to investigate events from earlier ages. He was also journalist, polemicist, politician and forthright anti-mafia activist. The conference Sciascia Today will re-examine his life and work.
The conference has been co-organised by Joseph Farrell (University of Strathclyde), Davide Messina (University of Edinburgh), Sara Parisi (University of Warwick), and Liz Wren-Owens (Cardiff University), in partnership with the Italian Institute of Culture in Edinburgh, and with the support of the Associazione degli Amici di Leonardo Sciascia, the Society for Italian Studies, and the Association for the Study of Modern Italy.
