Book presentation
In his book the author examines the origins of the theatre boom in Le Marche, and analyses the historic, social and architectural significance of a remarkable theatre heritage which stretches from the Renaissance to the nineteenth century. Why was there such a growth of theatrical activity in a relatively isolated area of Italy?
As an architect, Ian Arnott RSA, RIBA, FRIAS brings a different perspective to bear on this topic. In his talk, which will be illustrated by slides taken during a visit to the region, he discusses the buildings, some disused but some still in operation, some in large towns but some in small centres, which housed and fostered theatre writing and performance. His research was made possible by a Sir William Gillies Award made by the Royal Scottish Academy.
The event will be chaired by Professor Joseph Farrell.
