THE ROAD TO MEIKLE SEGGIE by Richard Demarco

RENEWING EUROPE’S JOURNEY

As part of its EU funded project, ‘Seeing Stories: Recovering Rural and Urban Landscape Narrative’, the Scottish International Storytelling Festival is delighted to be collaborating in the first formal publication of Richard Demarco’s pioneering ‘The Road to Meikle Seggie’ – an essay in words and pictures.

The essay is accompanied by the original drawings by Demarco as well as an Italian translation by Silvana Vitale, a suite of reinterpreted drawings, and an introductory essay by Donald Smith arguing for the importance of ‘Meikle Seggie’ in Richard Demarco’s life and work.

‘The Road to Meikle Seggie’ began in the early seventies at The Netherbow in Edinburgh’s Old Town, journeying to the foothills of the Ochils, and then spreading out across Scotland and Europe. It is a defining Demarco endeavour, a fertile source for the arts in all media, and a vital expression of shared culture at a time when the European ship is sailing through stormy waters.

Seeing Stories is a project of the European Union Culture Programme led by Scotland with partners from Italy, Portugal and Germany. The Scottish International Storytelling Festival also acknowledges the assistance of the Italian Cultural Institute with the preparation of this volume.

‘The Road to Meikle Seggie’ prints will be on exhibit at the book launch and available for purchase.
