On the occasion of the Italian National Day, 2nd June, Festa della Repubblica, the Consulate General of Italy for Scotland and Northern Ireland, with the support of the Italian Institute of Culture in Edinburgh, is pleased to invite the Italian community to a reception on Wednesday, 8th June 2022 at 6:00 pm at the Bute Hall, University of Glasgow.
A concert by the trio Giulia Bizzi (violin), Sarah Harrington (cello), Siobhan McAuley (voice) will mark the event.

GIULIA BIZZI (violinist)
Giulia Bizzi was born in Milan, Italy, in 1986 and started her journey with music from the age of five. Giulia studied the violin at Conservatorio “G.Verdi” in Milan, where she graduated in 2009 and thereafter a successful audition took her to the School of Music “Hugh Hodgson” University of Georgia, USA to continue her studies. In 2010, she was playing with the Accademia della Scala performing opera productions and symphonic concerts at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Ravello Festival (Belvedere di Villa Rufolo) and Pompeii (the Roman Amphitheater); on tour in Moscow (Bolshoi Theatre) and St. Petersburg (Philarmonic Theatre). Collaborating with prestigious artists and famous conductors and touring throughout Europe and the USA. Giulia continued her studies and obtained a master degree in 2011 from Conservatorio “G.Verdi” Milano. In the same year, after a successful audition and trial, she was offered the permanent position of No. 2, second violin, with Scottish Opera in Glasgow. Giulia is an enthusiastic professional and a passionate individual, her versatile musicianship takes her freelancing around Scotland whilst being busy teaching and performing in chamber groups and recitals.
SARAH HARRINGTON GREEN (cellist)
Sarah Harrington was born in Bury, Lancashire in 1972 but spent her childhood in Scotland. From 1990 to 1994 Sarah studied the Cello at the Royal Academy of Music in London from under the Professors Derek Simpson and David Smith. After several years freelancing in London with Orchestras such as the Glyndebourne Touring Opera, English Chamber Orchestra, Mozart Festival Orchestra and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Sarah returned to Scotland in 1998 to work with the Orchestra of Scottish Opera. Whilst being a current member of the Orchestra of Scottish Opera Sarah is busy freelancing with teaching and performing in Chamber groups and recitals around Scotland.
SIOBHAN MCAULEY (voice)
Siobhan McAuley is an extremely versatile musician with a breath of experience in both performance and vocal coaching. From the age of five she was a member of the prestigious Glasgow Youth Choir under the direction of the renowned Dr Agnes Hoey OBE, and performed as a soloist till the age of seventeen touring throughout Europe and Further afield. Siobhan made her debut with Scottish opera at the age of thirteen singing the role of First boy in Mozart’s Magic flute and ‘the child’ in Puccini’s La Boheme. Siobhan continued her vocal training at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (Conservatoire of Scotland). During her time at the Academy, Siobhan followed her passion for the voice by working as a vocal coach for ITV’s Stars in Their Eyes. After leaving her studies she furthered this by going on to become vocal coach for Bill Kenright’s tours of Joseph, Dr Dolittle, Half a Sixpence and Annie as well as being part of the vocal team and leading the highly acclaimed cast of Londons West End hit show The Lion king. Siobhan is also a successful traditional musician, winning the world championships in whistle and was given the opportunity to play on the bigger stage where she has performed alongside some big acts such as The Pouges, and Phil Cunningham more recently featured in the hit TV show Outlander. Alongside her professional coaching Siobhan promotes music education within primary schools working extensively throughout Scotland. Siobhan has passion for music within the community and continues to develop this as founder and director of the Ayrshire Infinity Choir.
