Italian Institute of Culture in Edinburgh
The documentary screening series Italian Clapperboard continues on Thursday, 10 December at 17:30 at the Italian Institute of Culture in Edinburgh with Dacia, vita mia – Dialoghi giapponesi (Izumi Chiaraluce, 85′, 2025).
An intimate journey between Rome and Japan, tracing the paths of memory, Dacia, Vita Mia – Japanese Dialogues weaves together Dacia Maraini’s voice, archival footage, drawings that fade in and out, and encounters that illuminate a destiny interwoven with two cultures. Director Izumi Chiaraluce, a silent witness and trusted companion, gathers the threads of a personal and collective story: childhood in a snow-covered Japan, the internment camp, art as a form of resistance, the legacy of her parents, her sister Yuki, theatre, and books. Dacia’s words become a bridge between distant worlds, between past and present. An intimate and profound portrait, unfolding at the unhurried pace of memory and to the vibrant rhythm of curiosity. A tribute to the gentle strength of a woman who has made writing, photography, and dialogue her home.
