A Glimpse into Silent City

The Italian Institute of Culture is supporting Silent City, a project for Matera European Capital of Culture 2019, created and co-produced by Compagnia Teatrale L’Albero and Fondazione Matera-Basilicata 2019 with Orchestra Senzaspine (Bologna) and Opera Circus UK. It is an artistic collaboration which combines the strengths of two highly regarded electronic studios and courses of study in Scotland and in Italy, to create a unique piece of electro-acoustic soundscape for the performances of Silent City as part of the official programme of the European City of Culture programme in Matera, Basilicata 2019.

Silent City is a community opera, made in collaboration with the citizens of Matera; it is a story that starts with people, whose unique voices are those of children and senior citizens – silent generations which lend their voices to the opera, together with composers, musicians, writers, singers, actors, dancers and international artists.

But what if the concept of opera were rebuilt on the foundations of this silence?

Come and discover more of this enthralling project with Professor Emeritus of Music Nigel Osborne MBE, University of Edinburgh, Professor Fabrizio Festa, Composer, Conservatorio di Musica “E. R. Duni” Matera where he teaches Electro-acoustic composition and harmony, and Professor Peter Nelson, composer and Chair of Music and Technology, University of Edinburgh, who will talk to our audience about this amazing project and the power of collaboration.
