Silent City is a story that starts with people, whose unique voices are those of children and senior citizens – silent generations which lend their voices to the opera, together with composers, musicians, writers, singers, actors, drama tutors and international artists.
The Italian Institute of Culture is delighted to support this artistic collaboration which combines the strengths of two highly regarded electronic studios and courses of study in Scotland and in Italy, to create a unique piece of electroacoustic/theatre work for performance as part of the official program of the European City of Culture programme in Matera, Basilicata 2019. The Matera studio has specialisations in sound environment archiving as well as electroacoustic composition; the Edinburgh studio specialises in composition and sound design in a multimedia context, including theatre.
This collaboration will produce outstanding work that will enjoy a high public profile in Italy and beyond.
