Sonica Glasgow, the biennial festival dedicated to world-class music and audiovisual art for curious minds and adventurous spirits, is back for its 8th edition, presented by Cryptic, who are celebrating 30 years of innovation in 2024. Get ready to be immersed.
Fusing the ancient with the modern, Riccardo Giovinetto’s FEMINA sets splinters of Renaissance paintings and processed snatches of polyphonic madrigals against contemporary electronica and visuals to explore traditional notions of beauty. It samples artworks by Botticelli, da Vinci and more, then teases them apart and scrambles thembeyond recognition, as if an AI has been confounded by the attempt to establish a universal definition of beauty. The abstract visual and sonic outcomes suggest a new aesthetic existing in the eye of a remote, possibly post-human beholder.
Riccardo Giovinetto is a visual and multimedia artist, acoustic physicist, musician, sound designer, composer and university professor. He focuses on timbre analysis, musical instruments acoustics and developed environmental noise and architectural acoustics, specializing in acoustic signal analysis and mathematical modelling of sound propagation, designing rooms in which acoustic comfort and listening quality are the main target.
