Sonica Glasgow, the biennial festival dedicated to world-class music and audiovisual art for curious minds and adventurous spirits, is back for its 8th edition, presented by Cryptic, who are celebrating 30 years of innovation in 2024. Get ready to be immersed.
The festival will open on Thursday 19 September with the Scottish premiere of Nati Infiniti at Tramway, the new live audiovisual work created and performed by Nine Inch Nails member, sound artist and the first ever Italian inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of fame Alessandro Cortini. With visuals by Marco Ciceri. Moving from blissful drone music to skewed synthesiser melodies and towering slabs of noise, the one-off live event melds the almost familiar with the distinctly alien
At extremely close range and in stately slow motion, a camera moves over mysterious accretions – the ridges, blooms, strata and grooves of mineral growth – while blissful drone music gives way to busying, skewed synthesiser melodies and towering slabs of noise. This new audiovisual work Nati Infiniti from sound artist (and touring member of Nine Inch Nails) Alessandro Cortini melds the almost-recognisable, as sound and visuals alike hover on the brink of resolving into familiar forms, with the distinctly alien. Visuals come from Marco Ciceri.
