Media Library OnLine

Members of the Italian Institute receive a complimentary subscription to our Online Library and Italian Newsstand, MLOL.

The digital lending platform Media Library OnLine grants you access to some of the most prominent Italian and international newspapers/magazines, a selection of e-books from major Italian publishers and the largest collection of open contents from all Italian libraries, allowing you to connect to the first Italian network of public, academic and scholastic libraries. To date, this network includes more than 7000 libraries from Italy and 12 foreign countries.

How to download a book

  1. Open the Media Library OnLine website from your browser: https://iicedimburgo.medialibrary.it/home/index.aspx
  2. Select “IIC di Edimburgo” and login with your credentials
  3. Click “Cerca”
  4. Select your favourite book
  5. Click “Prendi in prestito”
  6. Click “Scarica”
  7. Open the MLOL Ebook App (Download here, please see below image to find the “Codice App”)
  8. Click on “Bookshelf”
  9. Click on “Cloud”
  10. Click on the book cover to open it
  11. Click on “Local Books” and the book should be there

The service is free for Italian Institute members. To subscribe, please complete and email the membership form (download here) to iicedimburgo@esteri.it.

You will receive an e-mail with your credentials and a link to access the service. Follow this guide to sign-in on the online platform.

The system allows you to download newspapers & magazines every day and borrow 2 e-books per month. Each loan has a duration of 14 days, at the end of which it will be automatically deactivated. If you have not finished reading your e-book, you can request the loan of the same book as if it were a new loan.
