The promotion of Italian books abroad is one of the most significant actions of cultural diplomacy. In this regard, awards and grants for the translation of literary and scientific works, as well as for the production, dubbing, or subtitling of short films, feature films, and television series in foreign languages, serve as key instruments. Through its support for translations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation helps foster the internationalization of Italian publishing, which represents the most important cultural sector of our economy.
Types of Incentives:
a) Grants
- Funding for the translation of Italian literary and scientific works into a foreign language and their dissemination through publication (including e-book format), provided that publication is scheduled for after 1 July 2o25.
- Funding for the production, dubbing, or subtitling in a foreign language of short films, feature films, and television series that will be completed after 1 July 2026.
b) Awards
- For the translation of Italian literary and scientific works, including digital versions (e-books), that have already been translated and published not before 1 January 2025.
- For the production, dubbing, and subtitling of short films, feature films, and television series intended for mass media, provided they were completed not before 1 January 2025.
Who can apply:
Publishers, translators, production, distribution, dubbing, and subtitling companies, cultural institutions, as well as literary agents and agencies, may submit applications for two types of incentives:
- Grants and awards for translation into a foreign language.
- Grants and awards for the production of short films, feature films, and television series.
Application Process and Deadlines:
Applicants must submit their requests using the designated application form, completed in either Italian or English, and sent no later than 19 March 2026 to iicedimburgo@esteri.it.
